In Chile's Business-Economic Outlook, Two Key Sectors Stand Out as Fundamental Pillars of Employment Generation: Trade and Construction. Together, they support more than 2.4 million jobs, representing a significant portion of the country’s dependent workforce.
This area employs a substantial labor force, with 463,682 active companies and 1,346,500 dependent workers, making it a major source of employment in the country. The sector reports annual sales of 7.26 trillion UF.
It is also the most numerous in terms of companies, generating a large number of jobs across businesses of various sizes (from large retail chains to small family-owned shops) with constant dynamism and evolution.
The construction sector, in its various forms, comprises 115,294 companies, which together create 1,133,791 jobs, with estimated annual sales of 1.14 trillion UF.
Although its sales are lower compared to other sectors, construction stands out for its high labor intensity. From public works to private real estate projects, this sector mobilizes a significant amount of labor, especially in regions experiencing strong urban expansion due to population growth.
